- Perception Defines Our Reality:
- How we perceive events determines their impact on us. Situations are not inherently good or bad; our thinking makes them so.
- Control Your Emotions
- We must learn to limit our passions and prevent them from controlling our lives. Panic and fear are reactions we choose, and controlling our emotions allows us to focus on solutions.
- Practice Objectivity
- To see things as they truly are, we need to filter our prejudice, expectation, and fear. The “observing eye” sees events without the distortions of the “perceiving eye”. Objectivity can be cultivated by removing our subjective “baggage” from a situation.
- Alter Your Perspective
- Looking at a problem from a new angle can diminish its power over us. We have the ability to inject perspective into any situation, changing how daunting an obstacle appears. This includes understanding the larger context and reframing our individual interpretation of events.
- Focus on What You can Control
- A crucial aspect of perception is distinguishing between what is within our power and what is not. Focusing our energy on what we can change magnifies our power and prevents wasted effort on uncontrollable externals.
- Live in the Present Moment
- Instead of being overwhelmed by the “big picture” we should focus on the immediate moment and the task at hand. This helps to make obstacles seem more manageable.
- Think Differently
- Our perceptions can limit what we believe is possible. We should be open to questioning assumptions and potentially reshaping reality through our beliefs. Obstacles can illuminate new options if we think creatively.
- Find the Opportunity
- Within every obstacle lies an opportunity. This requires a mental flip to see the potential benefits and learning experiences in negative situations. Our preconceptions often blind us to these opportunities.
- Prepare to Act with a Clear Head
- Once we perceive the world objectively, the next step is to act. A clear and rational perception isolates the obstacle and prepares us for effective action.
Do not blame others from your problems, learn the lessons and move on.
